Welcome to the very first post on my brand-new-shiny-self-managed blog! (I’m starting to feel a bit like a real blogger now that I have my very own website… make sure you save the new address www.thisisbeck.net )

{Gasp. now I have to think of witty, interesting things to write about… come on brain…do some work. thinking…thinking…. I think I’m hungry… I wonder if the kids ate all the teddy bear biscuits? *sigh*}

Still with me?  Thanks.

I’m adding a few new categories to the blog, #MummyStylin is a new one that I will post weekly or fortnightly.  I have really struggled adapting my pre-kids wardrobe to be functional enough to chase after my two little terrors.

I’m calling it #MummyStylin, because I want to get this Mummy stylin’ again!

I still love clothes, accessories and yes, I still love my high heels even though they don’t get much wear these days. I still love looking at style and fashion magazines and websites, but so often, even on some of the Mummy ones, I find myself looking at the outfits thinking “as if!” We are still at the stage where anything white or light coloured is immediately adorned with melted chocolate smeared by chubby little fingers. Dangly earrings are a health hazard, anything fine, or delicate or lovely will immediately be grabbed by a toddler loudly declaring “mine!” and likely end up broken or shoved down the back of the couch.

So I do what a lot of mothers do. I wear a daily uniform of t shirts, hoodies, leggings or yoga pants. There’s nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of days I barely get time to brush my hair or teeth, so I really don’t give a flying frick about what I’m wearing.

But you know what?

I miss my clothes. I miss feeling put together, I miss looking in the mirror and thinking “you look cute today girl”, I miss getting compliments on my hair or outfits. I miss feeling good about myself. I miss having time to think about myself.

When I go out somewhere, I take an extra 10 minutes to throw on a bit of make up and wear something I feel good in, but why do I only do it when I’m going somewhere? Shouldn’t I want to feel good about myself every day? I don’t care if it’s silly, or shallow, or whatever. All I know is that a killer red lipstick can do wonderful things for my mood.

So I am really making an effort to wear things I feel good in.

I don’t have much disposable income to update my wardrobe with, so I’ll be re-working things I already own and of course, indulging in my love of op-shopping.

I’ve tried to do a few #dailystylechallenges but by the third day I can’t keep up and there’s nothing clean to wear and it’s hard to be creative with your outfit when it’s covered in kid-puke and dog hair. So I’m not doing that. I’m just going to share a weekly or fortnightly round up of my favourite things that I’ve worn, beauty products I’ve tried, or things I’ve seen. Anything that reflects my #MummyStylin moods and I’d love it if you, my gorgeous readers, would join me.

My rockin’ new Jubly-Umph earrings *swoon*

    First of all I have to say: I love your picture! It’s such a nice shot.Your suandy rituals sound so great. I love spending my suandys either with friends or family or on my couch in front of the TV (I watched Sex and the City today, too). Of course this suandy it was all about the Oscars, so Monday has to be my relaxing day this week ;) xx
